Autumn 2013

At home for a year in SE1
Last September, the Bermondsey Street festival presented us with a wonderful launch day and a great opportunity to meet local traders as well as our readers. It was on this day that we realised that the Bermondsey’s regeneration has made it one of the most exciting areas in London.

Now, with the regeneration of Elephant and Castle, we are on the cusp of seeing another area become a hub of retail and dining. Our photographer Rosie, who is no stranger to the area, was overjoyed to be assigned the task of capturing its essence.

Coffee shops and bars are popping up amongst market traders and in the most unexpected places, adding to The Elephant’s chilled, retro vibe. Although Brixton was recently crowned one of the world’s most exciting and eclectic places to live, The Elephant might soon give it a run for its money.

Our cover girl, poet Mia Jerome, submitted her work and we unanimously agreed that her talents were deserving of a place on our front page.

Throughout the autumn The RIVER’s Twitter and Facebook pages will also be keeping you informed of SE1’s artistic events – and the team will certainly be visiting Austin at Whites Grounds Estates for a little sculpting practice of our own!

Yours
