A set of five Russian dolls, handmade and painted by artisans in Russia. They are decorated in the traditional Semenov style, brightly painted in yellow and red with a design of flowers. It measures approximately 11 x 6 x 6 cm.
Mother Hen and Chickens
A traditional wooden playlet, handmade and decorated in Russia. It includes a mother hen and her ten chicks, painted in a bold folk-art style. The hen opens and the chicks can be stored inside.
Hen – It measures approximately 15 x 9 x 9 cm.
Chick – It measures approximately 4,5 x 2 x 2 cm.
Bottle of Beads
A bottle filled with hundreds of brightly coloured wooden beads. The beads come in a variety of different shapes, colours and sizes and would be ideal for jewellery making or any craft project. They are Montessori approved, hand crafted in the Czech Republic and are CE certified safe for 3 years and over. Each bottle is 14cm high.
A large antique sleigh, dating to the early 20th century. It is in very good condition, with a beautiful patina and the original metal runners. It has a charming early repair, bound with a leather thong, and a simple leather rein.
Hungarian Hearts – Festive Workshop
Modern Folk will host a festive workshop with folk embroidery expert Titania Fisher. Participants will learn about Hungarian Matyó embroidery and make their own hanging heart to take home. Matyó is an iconic style of folk embroidery from north east Hungary, famous for it’s brightly coloured flowers. It was even added to UNESCO’s Representative List Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2012.
The workshop will be on 16th December from 11am to 4pm. It will be at our shop in Bermondsey, a 10 minute walk from London Bridge. All materials and tea and coffee will be provided.
