we went looking for a hair stylist with years of experience dealing with sun-damaged hair and found Onay in the Lounge Hair Salon near Bermondsey tube station.
Onay was trained in Baker Street and has been in the industry for 25 years having qualified at just 17 years old. He worked in Battersea for almost ten years and established his salon on Jamaica Road, Bermondsey in 2000.
By the end of summer we are often left with sun-damaged, lifeless brittle looking hair. Swimming takes it’s toll too; chlorine and sea salt reduce hair colour and natural shine making your hair dry and lank.
A good stylist and quality products can reverse this damage.
“The ‘Real Control Range’ from Redken adds strength to hair and moisturises it putting back shine, body and volume,” says Onay.
You should also ask about the more intensive High Gloss Shine Treatment which when applied only takes 20 minutes to develop, then blow dried and will last for 10-15 washes. This treatment will enhance colour and give you great shine for between £45 to £55.
AUTUMN CHANGES
The coming season’s anticipated styles include loose layers, fringes cut fine or textured. The straight bold fringe is still going to be popular as will be curls and waves naturally tussled.
“As ever, in the autumn, colours become toned with rich shades like auburns, chocolate browns, golds and caramels.”
“If your hair is naturally coarse or difficult to manage, the Brazilian Blow Dry treatment is fabulous. It halves the time required at home for styling and is not a chemical process but uses a protein called Keratin instead.”
The treatment reduces or removes frizz and loosens curls without the commitment of being permanent.
Although prices vary from salon to salon a guide price is between £75 for short hair and up to £150 for longer styles.
“The effects last longer if you use the sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner recommended by us,” Onay explained.
