Local Artists & London Boundaries

Outstanding local artistic talent is on show again at London Bridge Hotel who host their second exhibition this year

Slipping Away by Octavia Milner

The relaxed and elegant setting of the London Bridge Hotel lobby and Lounge Bar are ideal places to enjoy fresh and exciting artworks while also enjoying a cocktail or Afternoon Tea. Exploring the theme of ‘boundaries’, General Manager Julio Marques has curated an exhibition which includes different approaches using a myriad of methods including wood carving, oil paint on concrete, illustration, London’s pubs reimagined, screen printing and painting on silk.

Mapping by Aasiri Wickremage

The seventeen artists exhibiting are: Aasiri Wickremage, Adrian Flaherty, Alison Cooke, Ann Dickie, Anna Gibb, Emma Barnie, Cameron Scott, Christina Borg, Gail Seres-Woolfson, Jenna Moore, Kim Youdan, Liz Whiteman Smith, Louise Sheridan, Lottie Stoddart, Octavia Milner, Robert Wilkinson and Shirley Hunter.

The range of work is as diverse as the materials used. Some of the stand out pieces include a striking print created by Liz Whiteman that depicts the enormous Shard structure in blue and white chequers towering behind the traditional architecture at London Bridge. Louise Sheridan’s river paintings are also noteworthy, inspired by a life spent beside the Thames, the rise and fall of tides and the city life that crowds its banks.

Adrian Flaherty from Herne Hill is displaying a bold painting that combines oil and acrylic paints with concrete added to give a urban, sculptural dimension to a piece that shows a view along the river beneath London’s bridges.

The hotel, with its traditional facade, was formerly a Telephone Exchange – a grand public works building from the early 20th century, now finds itself nestled beside the contemporary architecture of Renzo Piano’s designs for The Shard and the News Building at London Bridge station. The exhibition runs until December 2019 and all works on show are available for purchase.
