gearing up for summer, HiiT Studio’s gym-goers can break a sweat with some 20 minute training classes. Using whole body movements and body weight style movements, these classes are designed to get maximum results, as quickly as possible, using athleticism and skill.

“Short bursts of exercise, at a quite high intensity with even shorter bursts of rest in between,” says Christian Thomson, “targets the metabolic system which continues burning calories even after you’ve finished the class.”

New to Southwark, HiiT Studios (HiiT = high intensity interval training) is a gym focussed on skilful movements at high intensity, encouraging people to not just exercise but to enjoy movement, work with others and play. “The whole gym is about Sport Science,” HiiT Studios owner Christian explains. “It’s about bringing together, about everything that’s right about the industry.” Gym members can kick-start the summer with classes in combat sports, martial arts, kickboxing and even yoga, all lasting from half an hour to an hour. “There’s not a single class provided on site where you won’t be working the majority of muscles in the body,” added Christian. “We’re here to help people develop new skills, try new things and enjoy themselves.”

“this is an athlete’s gym for the general public

Power lifting is also available, helping the body’s ability to generate momentum and power, as well as TRX suspension training for a full body workout. “Realistically, the more exercise a person does the better. Three to five times a week is good but even if you just exercise twice a week you can see results.”

Of course, to fully benefit from training, fully qualified former athletes at the gym are on hand to give advice on the right nutritional plan. “We try to go the extra step on all fronts and we concentrate quite a lot on the education side of nutrition; how to eat to support your training.”

With over 200 classes and open seven days a week, HiiT Studios incorporates high quality gym equipment and personal coaches for a tailor made training experience. “I’ve never had the pleasure before of having this standard of equipment all under one roof,” Christian explained. “This is an athlete’s gym for the general public, plus we’ve got top professionals to help bring it all together and get everyone started.”
