Gavin Turk: Who What When Where How & Why
To 19 March 2017
Turk’s work focuses on the anti-hero, the recycling of art history, waste and refuse, the signature and the painted bronze. Works from the artist’s Signature series also feature alongside four life-sized figure sculptures, as well as painted bronze Rubbish pieces. Other highlights include Turk’s re-imagining of Warhol’s Elvis screen prints, his ‘recycled’ Magritte self-portrait, Godot (1996), and the bronze Ariadne (2006–2014), which is based on de Chirico’s series of paintings of the statue.

Since it was established in 1984 the Turner Prize has become one of the most prestigious international visual arts awards and has both reflected and contributed to a growing public awareness and interest in contemporary art. This year’s Turner Prize is awarded on 5 December 2016 and an announcement broadcast on the BBC.

Uncover the surreal and mystical side of English landscapes through one of the most distinctive British painters Paul Nash was fascinated with Britain’s ancient past and spent time in southern England exploring the Downs and coastal areas. Equally inspired by the equinox and the phases of the moon, he used all these influences in his work, interpreting his environment according to a unique, personal mythology, evolving throughout his career. Featuring a lifetime’s work from his earliest drawings through to his iconic Second World War paintings, this exhibition reveals Nash’s importance to British modern art in the most significant show of his work for a generation.

The EY Exhibition: Wilfredo Lam

Discover the fascinating career of Wifredo Lam, one of the most iconic Cuban artists of the twentieth-century His distinctive paintings introduced the symbolism of his Cuban roots and defined a new way of painting for a post-colonial world. As he travelled in Europe and North and South America, he was a witness to twentieth century political upheaval – including the Spanish Civil War, the evacuation of artists and intellectuals from France with the onset of World War II, and the new Cuba borne of the Revolution.

The Radical Eye: Modernist Photography from the Sir Elton John Collection

This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see one of the world’s greatest private collections of photography, drawn from the classic modernist period of the 1920s–50s. An incredible group of Man Ray portraits are exhibited together for the first time, having been brought together by Sir Elton John over the past twenty-five years, including portraits of Matisse, Picasso, and Breton.
