The Great Get Together

18 June: The Great Get Together

Jo Cox Rally

This summer, there will be the biggest neighbourhood celebrations since the Jubilee street partiesIt’s called The Great Get Together.

Everyone is invited to get together with their neighbours, to share food and celebrate all that we hold in common. Street party or barbecue, picnic or bake off, it doesn’t matter. What does matter is that communities come together. The Great Get Together is inspired by Jo Cox, the Labour Party MP who was murdered outside her constituency office in Birstall, West Yorkshire on 16 June last year.

Joseph Bonner, Vice Chairman of Bankside Open Spaces Trust (BOST) who are hosting the event, said: “We are delighted that David Haye has agreed to join us on the day as a special guest and that local businesses and organisations have engaged with the event with such enthusiasm.”

Jo’s family and friends came up with the initiative, and The Big Lunch have joined forces with their annual celebration. Bankside Open Spaces Trust will be cordoning off the crossroads on Union Street and Redcross Way for the day and amongst the community fun there will be Best in Dog Show, Wacky Races, Comedy from Edinburgh Fringe and a stunning 13 band music line up on the outdoor stage for the day.
