Bermondsey Street Festival 2014

The annual party returns on 20th September

Bermondsey Street Festival 2014 The River Balloons

in the Autumn of 2013, Bermondsey Street played host to 20,000 visitors during its annual festival, and this year promises to attract an even bigger crowd! With the road closed, the pavements will be full to the brim with stalls from local businesses, so if you’re a Bermondsey regular, expect to see a lot of familiar faces.

Make sure you turn up to the festival hungry, as one of the main attractions is the huge amount of delicious food that will be on offer. As well as the wealth of fantastic bars and restaurants that sit on Bermondsey Street, there will also be stalls from local foodies such as Anna Mae’s Mac n Cheese, Hutong and Divine Chocolate. There will also be a number of refreshing drinks served up by 214 Bermondsey, Little Sparrow Tea and many more.

Bermondsey Street Festival Dog Show London
If you’re coming along to see the local talents of the Bermondsey community, the festival promises to not disappoint. On show will be arts and crafts from London Glassblowing, Richard Miller, and Baker & Maker, to name just a few. Be sure to also look out for the unveiling of The Shared, a community-made sculpture led by local artist Austin Emery and to be unveiled by Norman Ackroyd.

What is there for visitors to get involved in, though? Well, plenty in fact. One of the big favourites of the events, The Dog Show, will of course be returning, this time with a special guest appearance from Top Dog Model winner Simba. New to the 2014 festival, however, will be the Bermondsey Street Bake-Off. The ‘Best Looking’ cake, the ‘Best Tasting’ cake and the ‘Best Young Baker’ will all be judged by East London baker and cake designer Lily Jones (aka Lily Vanilli). Both of these contests are open to the public, so be sure to get your registration in on time.

Of course, no party would be complete without music! With two different stages as well as a DJ, the festival promises to offer something for everybody’s feet to dance to.

The Bermondsey Street Festival is truly a community-driven event, run entirely by volunteers, and is a highlight on every local’s calendar. Be sure not to miss it!
