Albion Street Market

A diverse community united by shared values, local trade and marvellous food by Owen Rice

The intimate community that thrives along Albion Street in Rotherhithe recently enjoyed another ‘Scandi Market’ – drawing out bundles of seasonal goodwill and neighbourly spirit, plus a visit from Santa, and lots and lots of festive food and drinks.

Home to both Norwegian and Finnish churches in London, this cluster of streets by Rotherhithe station is a place where diverse nationalities have become united over decades, creating
a tightly knit community that epitomises London life.

The church Sjømannskirken (Norwegian Church Abroad) is very much at the heart of this social scene and has recently opened the doors to its fabulous kitchen by offering catering services to local businesses in Rotherhithe, Bermondsey, Surrey Quays and beyond. There is an impressive sophistication and elegance in the way this association goes about everything it does, from their tasteful plates of international food to its well organised street events.

The next Scandi Market will take place in the Spring of 2020, on Saturday 28 March from 11am to 7pm.
